Zoë Templeman-Young trained as an actor (RADA) before becoming a freelance director and dramaturg. She was the Jerwood Assistant Director at the Young Vic in 2021 before being made the Jerwood Associate Director.
She is a JMK finalist (2024) and has been an Associate Director at Young Vic (Hamlet), RSC/Barbican (Twelfth Night), Riverside Studios (Interview). She has assisted Robert Twyman (ETT) and been an associate director to Prasanna Puwanarajah and Teunkie Van Der Sluijs.
Her work as a director includes Flicker (Soho), Demeter (Young Vic, Five Shorts), Indecent, Book of Dust; La Belle Sauvage, Angels in America (RWCMD).

As a dramaturg her main interest is new work, and developing stories from the very start of their journey. She has worked with published playwrights [Bryony Lavery, Marina Carr, Jessica Swale] and new writers alike, and has developed film, TV theatre scripts over the past decade.
She is a published playwright (Nick Hern) with her verbatim play Take Care, that tells the stories of carers of older people across the UK. She is a verbatim specialist and has taught at colleges and drama schools.
Zoë is a mentor for actors, directors and writers looking to enter the industry at any age. She also works with TWWR, providing a network for refugees to access the arts.
